A lighter vessel carrying 1,800 tonnes of wheat capsized after an oil tanker hit it at Chittagong port channel in the river Karnaphuli this morning.
Thirteen crews of the sunken vessel however managed to swim ashore, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Captain Najmul Alam, deputy conservator of Chittagong Port Authory.
The vessel ‘Blue Pacific’ sank around 9:30am as some of its parts were badly damaged due to the collision with oil tanker ‘Golden Blessings’, the port official said. The accident however did not hamper water vessel movement through the channel, he said.
